Complicated steel alloys (CMAs) include a massive staff of principally unknown alloys and compounds the place many stages are shaped with crystal buildings in accordance with immense unit cells containing atom clusters starting from tens of to numerous thousand atoms in line with unit mobile. In those stages for plenty of phenomena the actual size scales are considerably smaller than the unit-cell measurement.

2. 28 Industrial Brazing Practice t L 1. Long flow brazing: 2. g. g. 3 The relationship between joint overlap length and the thickness of the materials to be brazed. For reasons explained later in this book, the use of gas fluxing in conjunction with low-temperature silver brazing alloys is bad practice and must be avoided (see Chapter 3). 2 Butt Joints It has already been established that low-temperature brazing is mainly a capillary joining process. Furthermore, lap joints, rather than butt joints, are the obvious choice because of the presence of a capillary.

Depending on the length of the joint and the time taken to braze it, together with the temperature at which the brazing process is undertaken, premature freezing of the filler material will probably lead to the formation of a joint that is only partially filled. 1. Dealing with this problem provides another fundamental rule of brazing: If excessive inter-alloying between the molten filler material and the parent metal cannot be controlled by a strict regulation of the brazing time and temperature, its harmful effects can be minimized by increasing the joint gap when freezing occurs and reducing it where erosion is seen to occur.

This is true because the fundamental objective is always the development of a successful solution to a brazing problem. The fact that a particular procedure actually provides a solution is the really important fact, not that the solution that has been developed conforms to a particular theory found in a 50-year-old reference book. It is self evident that if the solution that is proposed effectively solves the problem it will be acceptable to the user. From the above, it is clear that some common technological ground exists among different processes that rely on widely differing flow performance from the filler materials that are used to produce the brazed joints.
